Robinson Triumphs at Sevie’s UK Gem

Liam Robinson survived a Play-off against Jamie Abbott and Brandon Robinson-Thompson, after the trio tied on 10 under par, to win The Shire London Challenge.

The first day saw some very low scoring, on the far from easy Seve Ballesteros designed Shire London course, just outside of Barnet in North London, with Brandon Robinson-Thompson posting an 8 under par 64 followed by Toby Hunt, Chris Gane and Jamie Abbott all on 6 under par.

Harry Casey is also worth a mention, because he managed to Eagle 3 of the 6-par fives on his way to a five under par total to lie in fifth place and very much in the hunt.

Over 30 players scored par or better, which was an indicator as to the quality of the players competing on the Jamega Pro Golf Tour.

The second day was going to be a closely fought affair. that would be a tribute to the genius of Severiano Ballesteros and his only UK designed golf course.

Robinson was the first to post a possible winning score, when he added a 7 under par 65 to his first round 69, for a 10 under par total.

In the final group of the day Abbott was cruising and in charge of proceedings with 4 holes to play but bogies on the fifteenth and sixteenth rocked him back on his heels until he righted the ship with birdies on seventeen and eighteen to join Robinson on 10 under par.

Overnight leader Robinson-Thompson came to the last needing a par to win but unfortunately managed to bogey Sevie’s signature eighteenth hole and join Abbott and Robinson for the play-off, which Robinson went on to win at the third extra hole.

The course was in superb condition for the tournament thanks to Head Greenkeeper, George Stillwell and his team. The players and Jamega Team were all looked after splendidly and safely in the clubhouse by the excellent hospitality staff.
