Dixon Back on Pole
David Dixon raced to a 3 shot win at The Leatherhead Club thanks to a blistering last lap of 6 under par, which saw him overtake local resident professional, Michael Lowe and take the chequered flag.
First round leader, Lowe enjoyed a varied selection of numbers whilst compiling his 5 under par 66 on the first day, it had a smattering of pars and birdies but the highlight of his round was undoubtedly the Eagle 2 he made on the seventeenth.
Marco Penge was Lowe’s closest challenger at the end of the day with a 4 under par 67 and a shot further back came the veteran, John Hoskison who rekindled days of yesteryear with a solid 3 under par 68.
Dixon who was 3 shots back, had to come out of the blocks firing on all cylinders if he was going to catch Lowe, who as the resident professional, had to be the hot favourite.
On the second day Tyler Hogarty and George Mullins fed off each other’s good play in the afternoon and both recorded 4 under par 67’s that left Mullins as the clubhouse leader on 3 under par.
Dixon then came in and blew the tournament wide open with a superb 6 under par 65 that gave him a final total of 8 under par and a substantial lead in the clubhouse.
Luke Johnson came close with a fine 3 under par 68 but that still left him 3 shots behind Dixon, who was now in a commanding position, as news that the final group were all struggling came in, with neither Penge, Lowe or Hoskison under par.
So, it was a delighted Dixon who took the victors laurels and the guaranteed winner’s prize of £3,500 but the biggest prize, for Dixon, was the welcome return to form adding this win to the one he enjoyed at the Paul Laurie Par 3 Tournament recently.
In the stunning sunshine the Leatherhead Club looked a picture and thanks to the hard work of the clubhouse staff and Pro, Michael Lowe, the hospitality was second to none and we would, without hesitation recommend it as a course to be played.
