DeJa vu for Whitnell

Dale Whitnell with Jamega at Hamptworth 2018It was a “Ground Hog Day” for Dale Whitnell (Forester Park) as he repeated his 2016 win at Hamptworth with the same score of 10 under par, albeit this time, by way of a play-off against Callum Davidson.

It was Davidson who led the way after day one, with a solid 5 under par 65 but that only put him one shot ahead of the eventual winner Whitnell.

A whole raft of experienced players were also in close proximity and Davidson would have to be on his metal to keep them at bay on the second and final day.

On the second day, players tend to play with more freedom and score better, Paul Kinnear was one who found some welcome form and carded a 6 under par 65 to put him in the clubhouse lead on 7 under par but it was to be too little, too late for the Liverpudlian.

Last weeks winner, Michael Farrier-Twist, continued his fine run with a flawless, best of the day 7 under par 64, which saw him leapfrog Kinnear and set a new target of 9 under par for the leaders to aim at.

In the final group of the day it was Whitnell and Davidson who were having a battle and it looked as though Whitnell was heading for an easy run in for the title, getting to 9 under par after 12 holes and leading Davidson by 3 shots.

That was until Davidson hit him with 4 birdies in a row from the fourteenth to join Whitnell on 10 under par with one hole to play, which they both parred and so it was off to a play-off to decide the winner, which Witnell won at the first extra hole.

This win gave Whitnell his second victory of the 2018 season and put him into a Tie with Michael Farrier-Twist for the FREE entries on the Portugal Pro Golf Tour, for the 2018/2019 Season

The last event of the year is at The Players Club on October the 8th and 9th so we look forward to seeing you all there for the end of season Order of Merit Finale.
