Glorious Goodwood Win for Bloor
George Bloor finally made it into the winner’s enclosure with a truly fine performance at the Goodwood Golf Club, over the Downs course, with an excellent total of 8 under par.
Bloor, who has had, or been close to the first round lead several times whilst playing on The Portugal Pro Golf Tour through the winter and yet, he had not been able to capitalise on his positions with a win until now.
In the first round Bloor raced round the Goodwood track in an impressive 9 under par 63 to set a new lap record and establish a lead of 3 shots over Josh Loughrey and 4 shots ahead of former European Tour winner, Dan Brooks.
Bloor played flawless golf in compiling his round of 63, which contained 2 Eagles and 5 Birdies with no dropped shots.
The second day was to prove more of a challenge to the players and it would be a combination of patience, endurance and determination that would bring the winner home on a very wet and windy day.
In the third group from home, Marcus Armitage shot the best of the day with a 4 under par 68, for a total of 6 under par, which give Bloor, in the final group something to think about over the home straight.
However, Bloor was steadfast in his resolve not to waste another golden opportunity for a first win and sitting on a comfortable 3 shot lead, with one hole to play, even a bogey on the long par 4 eighteenth did nothing to dent the delight of that first win.
It was the first visit to Goodwood for the tour and we were made to feel very welcome by all the staff and we would most certainly recommend the course to golfers looking to play on the south coast.
