Marcus is The Oxford Don

Marcus Armitage with Jamega at Oxford Golf Club 2019Marcus Armitage became a winner again at Oxford Golf Club with an 8 under par total of 132 to win by 3 clear shots from Nathan Kimsey, Chris Lloyd and Jamie Abbott.

On the first day the scoring over The Oxford Golf Course was not as low as seems to be the norm these days in most professional tournaments and in tough windy conditions it was a real test of skill and endurance.

Jamie Abbott posted a best of the day 4 under par 66 that put him one shot ahead of the former European Tour player, Marcus Armitage who is looking to re-kindle his form of old. Also sitting one behind Abbott was last weeks winner, George Bloor who is in a rich vein of form at the moment.

One of the highlights of the first round was a hole-in-one by Nathan Kimsey on the fifteenth and another Eagle on the last, saw him home in 69 shots.

The second day saw less wind than day one and the scoring reflected that fact, with Steve Tooth carding a 7 under par 63 to improve on his first round by no less than 18 shots!

With the pure greens running at an “Augusta” like speed, there was some excellent scoring throughout the day with a host of players scoring in the 60’s.

However, Armitage drew on his European Tour experience and played some excellent golf throughout the afternoon, compiling seven birdies, nine pars and just 2 bogey’s and that meant that no one could catch, “The Bullet”.

Oxford Golf Club did a magnificent job in preparing the course to the highest of standards and the heartiest congratulations must be extended to Head Greenskeeper, Dougie Macgregor and his dedicated staff.

The hospitality extended by Ria and the clubhouse team to all the players and Jamega was second to non and we would unreservedly recommend Oxford, Golf Club to all players looking for the ultimate golfing experience.
