Vernon is the Cream of the Crop
Eddie Vernon overcame the difficult scoring conditions at The Leatherhead Golf Club to win “The Leatherhead Trophy” by one shot from Louis Hirst, with South Africa’s Lyle Rowe a shot further back in third place.
Strong blustery winds made controlling the golf ball extremely difficult on day one, where only 10 players bettered the par of 71.
One of the highlights of the first round was a hole in one on the par 3 seventeenth, by James Heath, which gave him a share of the halfway lead on 2 under par.
Vernon, after a first round of one under par 70, which left him just shot off the lead, put together a flawless second round of 66 made up of 5 birdies and thirteen pars for a 6 under par total and the deserved win.
In afield of over 90 players, made up of golfers from 12 different golfing nations, which included several current and former European tour and Challenge tour players, it was rewarding for us to see the up and coming Eddie Vernon triumph.
We are sure that after this experience Vernon will progress to bigger and better things in his golfing career, boosted by winning against a quality field.
The Leatherhead Club is one of our favourite venues as there is always a friendly welcome from the helpful staff both on the course and in the clubhouse, where you can be sure of having a choice of excellent food after your round on the superb golf course.
