Elementary for Watson

Billy Watson with Jamega at Enfield 2019Billy Watson lead from the gun, to win “The Enfield Invitational” with a 13 under par total that put him one shot ahead of James Willis on 12 under and 3 ahead of Glen Portelli in third place, on 10 under par.

The first round produced some excellent scoring with David James posting a 7 under par 65 early in the day and that remained unchallenged until Watson joined him on the same score later on.

The highlight of the first round, was a Hole-in-One, on the par 3 sixth hole, by Henry Sheridan-Mills, which helped him to a 5 under par 67 opening score.

During the second round Watson showed great composure and proved his class by compiling an error free 6 under par 66 to add to his first round 65 and pick up the £3,500 winners’ cheque.

Watson was pushed all the way by James Willis, who shot a best of the day 7 under par 65, a round which culminated with a Birdie, Eagle finish.

It was rewarding again to see another young player, who is at the dawn of his professional career, play well and win against a very experienced, international field such as the one we had again this week.

The Enfield International was preceded, as usual, by a very successful Pro-Am with over 30 teams participating. Giles Evans was the leading professional with a magnificent score of 8 under par 64.

The overall winners of the pro-am were “Team Mignano” (2) with a magnificent score of 90 points helped by their exuberant professional, Steve Tooth, aka “Toothy”, contributing too the score and also keeping the team entertained.

The Enfield Club maintained their claim to be the friendliest golf club in North London, thanks to the eager and enthusiastic membership making both us and the professionals very welcome and with a course maintained in excellent condition, thanks to the efforts of Head Greenkeeper, Dane Watts and his team, it is a must stop for every nomadic golfer.
